For most of my time spent in my truck, it seems as if I’ve seen everything on the road. And as my commute is nearly an hour one way, I’ve spent some time performing an unscientific test. This test pits north metro drivers against south metro. We all know Minnesotan’s do not know how to merge. And everyday I am witness to, or unwittingly am a participant of some sort of merging mix up. In this experiment I am keeping mental track of the number of incidents that result in someone getting pis*** and flipping a bird, driving off or sending some other kind of message. In my travels, I’ve noticed that north metro drivers, while easily as aggressive as south metro drivers, generally let things go. North metro drivers will cut you off, or perhaps flip you the bird if they think they were wronged, but they do not normally go out of their way to either follow you or take your picture and then mouth something like ‘you’re going on the web’.
South metro drivers obviously are one of 2 things: 1) rich and feel like they own the road, thus they are entitled to cut you off, then follow you to work and say something to you; or 2) will not merge even though their lane is getting cut off one block away but instead they race you in their big truck and trailer until the very end then pull up next to you to show off their camera as if you did them wrong and they are pis*** off because they live in the south metro but are not rich. I just don’t get it. Life is too short folks, please learn how to merge. And yes, I hope that guy caught my good side.
