No, not cotton apparel, I’m talking about the stuff that falls off a cottonwood tree. Those trees are a menace to society. Why can’t the emerald ash borer or some other insect afflict cottonwood trees instead of trees that actually have some value? My dad had 50 cottonwoods in his back yard, and over the course of several years, he has taken each one down. His excuse was because the cotton gets everywhere. He was sweeping that stuff out of his garage everyday. I used to give him grief for cutting down so many trees, but now I understand why.
While fishing the other day, a particularily sinister looking cottonwood tree was shedding. Of course, this spot also held lots of bass, so moving was not an option. But that tree created globs of white stuff that accumulated on the water’s surface. Every cast into that area, some globs of cotton would attach to my line. I picked off as much as I could, but eventually the cotton accumulated on my line to the point where I could no longer reel it in! Yep, it blocked the lineguide on my reel to the point where I could no longer take line in. When will the master’s of the fishing line industry invent something that will catch fish, but not cotton?
