I’ve been working the river (I won’t say which river) this winter, and I have to say, it’s been disappointing to say that least. What used to produce 20 smallmouth a day is now barely producing a couple. In fact, today, I got skunked for the first time in two years!

    Ouch!

Praise God! This should be the rule for all BASS, FLW, and other angling events, all the way down to bass clubs.

Bored with all of my other fishing trinkets, I went fishing on the web for something different and found MSR Plastics. Ever held a plastic bait in your hands and thought “Man, if they’d only do this to it or […]

The website is nothing to write home about, and there isn’t a lot of information out there, but I’ve been working directly with the owner of GBlanks Rods, Larry. He’s a great guy, and seems to know his stuff. […]

I sure do… I’ve been to busy to pack them up and get them back to Abu. They have a 3-year warranty. I’d like your thoughts on the break before I send it back though.

If you’re looking for a great custom rod check the new website huderlecustomrods.com.

    • That’s a great looking site, @unfrozen. I’ve added a link to ‘FW Friends’ section of Fishwrench.

All, I’ve used Chad for many of my custom rod needs. He created a baseball themed rod for a friend’s (@fishhawk) birthday, spun the wooden handles for a custom rod I received, and I also take my rod repairs to Chad.

His work is second to…[Read more]

Do you still have the pieces? I’d sure like to see them if you do. There are clues to look for that can tell you why it broke.

Don’t cry Mr. Fishwrench. I was in the same position at this time last year. Dead last. But the GF doubled up his efforts and found a way to be in contention for 2nd place going into the last tourney, then choking on it and eventually winding up in 3rd overall. Still, way better than [...]

During a tournament on Big Marine, I was throwing a 5″ craw tube, and getting bites. I went to set the hook into what felt like could have been a decent fish, and SNAP!!! My Abu Garcia Verdict snapped into three pieces. One piece came back with such force that it left a bruise on [...]

I knew you’d come around….though it took longer than I thought.
Hard to go wrong with Power Pro, Spider Wire Stealth or Suffix 832.
I prefer no less than 30lb and no higher than 65lb.

I tried braid a couple of weeks ago, and I kind of liked it. Shhhhhhhhh! Don’t let my rods and reels here that. They’ve been perfectly happy with fluorocarbon. It may be time to start experimenting with braid and other lures though. That said, what do you think would be a good, general-purpose sort of [...]

Ish, sounds ugly. But the green carp don’t seem to mind that stuff. How’s the bassin’ out there?

  • buckshot posted on the forum topic I Hate Cotton in the group Group logo of FishingFishing: 10 months, 1 week ago

yeah the issues I had at winni were mono…not braid…still just as big an issue. You should try Bigstone sometime….the green slime is DISGUSTING!!! The algae is so thick it gathers on your line so bad you need to put a sinker above whatever lure you are running so the lure doesn’t get covered with [...]

Are you trying to tell me fluoro will not stick to cotton? I have had the same problem with mono. Give up braid? No way.

  • fishwrench posted on the forum topic I Hate Cotton in the group Group logo of FishingFishing: 10 months, 1 week ago

Of course, if you switched to fluoro instead of braid, you wouldn’t have these problems @godfather.

  • buckshot posted on the forum topic I Hate Cotton in the group Group logo of FishingFishing: 10 months, 1 week ago

Used to deal with that up at winni on second weekend when spring came in May and not July. It’s no fun, I would just hold the line tight and snap the line a couple times it would flick out most of the water and make it easier to remove.
