We got enough of a steady rain that it could have been both. I just left the unit on my boat the whole time and it rained for 4 days straight.

Is it the unit, or the connection at the battery. If the positive terminal gets wets, then you’re not going to get all the volts at the unit that you need to get.

On my recent fishing trip, my lcx-27 acted up a bit. At one point, it would shut off unexpectedly, then I would turn it on, it would power up as usual, then shut off again. When it did stay on, it would show that my starting battery held barely 9 volts. I have noticed in [...]

The final outcome is Lowrance replaced the waterlogged unit at no charge. They stood behind their top of the line model and committed to customer satisfaction. In the end, I’m only out my waypoints. Frankly, those waypoints probably weren’t any good anyway. Thank you, Lowrance. Would I recommend you to a friend? Very possible, but [...]

Cool beans that you’re getting a new one. Too bad you had to be put through the ringer to get it and you lost all of your waypoints, but hopefully this one will not be as susceptible to water leakage.

I don’t want to say this too early, but it looks like Lowrance is shipping me a new unit. I haven’t paid anything, or given them any payment information. It could be that they replaced the unit at no charge, and that’s exactly what I thought SHOULD happen being that the unit is faulty. If that’s [...]

I’m starting to think they all have their problems. I’ve been reading online complaints that the transducer on the Humminbird isn’t shielded well, meaning interference from the trolling motor. I recall having that with an old Humminbird black-and-white unit. It sounds like it may have never been improved. There’s only one solution… be more like [...]

That’s is not good customer service and on the flip side, another reason why you should never go out and buy the first generation of anything. There always seems to be some kind of flaw. In any case, Lowrance should be doing a better job of keeping its customers happy, or as you say, Hummingbird [...]

The last post still doesn’t mean that Lowrance will replace my water-logged unit on their dime. It’s just confirmation of what I told them… the unit is full of water. On a side note, I talked to Dean Capra who was more than happy to provide a discount on a Humminbird unit to get me [...]

REALLY Lowrance? This is the best you can do? It’s not like I broke your unit — it was faulty from the factory. It looks like Humminbird may make a sale.

Thank you for contacting us. Based on your information, we do recommend sending your unit in for service. If the unit is still under the 1 [...]

I bought my HDS-5 the first year they hit the market. Lesson learned (again)… never buy anything in it’s first year. Apparently, the seal on the HDS-5 and HDS-7 was bad on Lowrance units their first couple years of production. That would allow water to get inside during a heavy rainfall. Symptoms of a waterlogged [...]

I have an HDS-5, and now that I have the correct trasducer, I absolutely love it. If I had one complaint, it would be the small screen. Of course, the HDS-10 wouldn’t have such a problem. If you can afford it, I recommend it.

Those units look sweet, I have been contemplating whether to make the jump or to ride out my lcx27 for awhile. The HDS10′s don’t come cheap.

The X15 I had on my dash was starting to lock up and not allow me to zoom in and out so I bit the bullet just before opener and bought an HDS10 for the dash of my boat. After my trip to Winni all I can say is WOW, that is a sweet unit. [...]

HST-WBL … that’s the transducer I needed. SHOP AROUND! I picked this up at the Northwest Sports Show for $70.00. Searching online prior to the show, they were going for anywhere between $107 – $149.

Thanks, Perch Jerker… very helpful. As soon as I buy some bobbers, I’ll start fishing deeper.

    Try fishing deeper. :-)

I think there are only 2 options and from what I have heard the 83/200 is the correct one for normal use.

I’m in need of a new transducer for my Lowrance HDS-5 to try to combat shallow water problems with the unit. Anything less than 10′ deep and weeds, and I lose my signal with my trolling motor mount transducer. Does anyone know the correct transducer model number to get to avoid the shallow water problems?
